Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2021 were an estimated 9.4 million metric tons (Mt), a 9.2% increase from shipments in November 2020, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through November totaled an estimated 99.1 Mt, a 4.0% increase from those for the same period in 2020.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2021 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio) received 39% of November shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 197,000 metric tons in November 2021, a 10% increase from those in November 2020. Shipments for the year through November totaled an estimated 2.2 Mt, a slight increase from those for the same period in 2020. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in November 2021 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, California and Tennessee; these states received 63% of November shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.1 Mt in November 2021, essentially unchanged from production in November 2020. Production for the year through November totaled an estimated 72.2 Mt, essentially unchanged from the same period in 2020. The leading clinker-producing states in November 2021 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Pennsylvania; these states accounted for 49% of November clinker production.
